South Africa – AngloAmerican Platinum Tries To Quietly Fire 12,000 South African Miners After The Massacre At Marikana – 7 October 2012

I’m waiting to hear libertarians explain to me how the property rights of moneybags platinum barons are more important than the rights of 12,000 South African miners to have continued employment. I’m also waiting for all the people who wrung their hands over the police’s behaviour at Marikana to now acknowledge who the police are defending, and how much power foreign companies continue to have over South Africans. I’m also waiting for people, generally, to acknowledge the whiteness of the boardrooms and the blackness of the people fired. This is the face of Apartheid 2.0 – and frankly, it’s starting not to look much different than the original.
