This is something worth saying about the 24/7 royal birth media frenzy…did anyone stop to think about how bad the British monarchy is in terms of being a conduit for sexism?
Tina Brown on MSNBC’s Morning Joe: “Although there’s the constitutional change that we can now have a girl as the first-born to be the monarch, nonetheless, she does the traditional thing, and she gives us a prince. She gives a king.”
Victoria Arbiter on CNN: “My first thought, I have to say, this is how brilliant a royal Kate is. There are women throughout British royal family history that have panicked over not being able to deliver a boy, and here we are, Kate did it first time.”
Unless someone at Buckingham Palace dashes off a press release to let the world know how full of crapola people who say things like this are, expect me to continue to rain on your monarchical parade.
In 2013, we shouldn’t have people on television trying to convince us all that having a boy child is superior to having a girl child. That people are doing this in the name of a royal family which, despite my protestations, remains formally at the head of the country in which I live is doubly insulting.
