US – With The Power To Block A Foreign Policy Choice Comes Great Responsibility – I Want That Vote In Congress, Because With It Comes An Admission That Policy Choices Belong To Everyone – 9 September 2013

I want that vote on Syria. I want the President’s position to be voted down, so at long last people will take some responsibility for a democratic choice _they_ have made. It may not be the right choice – only time will tell, and if it turns out Assad’s emboldened by the lack of a world response to his butchery, then we’ll all revisit this soon enough. But god dammit, I just want to see people own up that _they_ won a vote, and that means _they_ made policy. And that means if the policy fails, the responsibility to figure out how to fix things is also _theirs_.

Yeah, I know. Too much to expect….
